Steps to Become A Real Estate Agent in Malaysia

To own a Real Estate license, it could involve your times and efforts. This is a career in the real estate industry entails more than just selling houses.

To be qualified and recognised by the Board of Valuers, Appraisers, Estate Agents and Property Managers Malaysia (BOVAEP), below are the simple steps to follow:

Step 1: Pass the Estate Agent’s Written Examination Part I & II conducted by BOVAEP or obtain a diploma or degree from higher learning institutions accredited by BOVAEP. General requirements to enrol to these programs are you must be Malaysian citizen or permanent resident (PR) holder and own a SPM certificate with a minimum of three credits (in either Maths, Science, Commerce or Accounts) and two passes.

Step 2: Register with BOVAEP as a Probationary Estate Agent (PEA). You must undergo 2 years practical training under the supervision of a REA (supervisor). For those with a degree qualification accredited by BOVAEP, the practical training is 1 year.

Step 3: After the completion of the practical training, you need to submit the following to BOVAEP:

Task 1 – On Agency Process

Task 2 – On a property marketing proposal

Step 4: Register for the Test of Professional Competence (TPC).

Step 5: Attend the oral interview to be conducted by a panel of interviewers from BOVAEP.

Step 6:  After passing the TPC, BOVAEP will then grant the authority to practice and issue certificates upon receiving the required fees.

Step 7: You are now qualified as a registered REA.
